A House on Holland Street

A house on Holland Street
Is where he grew up?
A big backyard with a swing set and a playhouse
The trampoline sat with the grass deprived of sunlight underneath
The neighbors were cool
And they ran in and out of the front door
Never alone, always with company,
The family house of his childhood memories.

The Bratty Kid

This bratty little kid would run and shout
He wanted it his way, and if not he would pout.

This bratty little kid always got his way
Until one day
His grandparents came to stay.

They saw the problem first hand
So they sent his parents to a marching band
And the grandparents - they took a stand.

They had him scrub the floor
And take the trash out the door.

It was enough for him
But they wanted more.

So work he did
And he was forbid.

To have won
He could not have fun
Until his chores were done.

And his parents could not come home
Until he made a kaca patri dome.

They were so strict
His head felt like a brick.

And at last his parents came home
To see his fancy kaca patri dome.

And it gave him and them a smile
That would last for a long while.

Mushroom Trip

Intelligence Test

After I ate the unfamiliar mushroom I began to catch shooting stars on my tongue, and breathed fire like a winged dragon and washed my hair in the rain and when I shrank to the size of a pea I washed my feet while watching screw drives molest screws and then I grew a tail which I cut off. Overall that was one intense mushroom.

A Pencil

A Pencil

Long and Yellow
With a pink eraser at its end
And a stick of lead running through its core.
A writer’s tool
The basic tool used by everyone
The first tool we learn to use as children
The one tool we use all our life
And will always use
As ideas flow out the pencil shrinks
Leaving behind its creations for the world to see.

Mighty Ocean Blue

The Mighty Ocean Blue

25 years ago my true love was taken from me
On a deep sea fishing trip in the pacific
The fish were biting plentifully
All was good until the environment around us started to change
Dark clouds and strong winds moved in
The clear sky and smooth water moved away
We pulled the poles in
I took my place as captain behind the wheel
Struggling to keep the boat in control
As strong waves and winds smashed against the side
My wife always looking for a thrill stayed on deck
Enjoying the storm and managing the equipment
A giant wave comes on deck and sweeps her away
I left my position and ran to her aid
Throwing floating devices in the water
She was unable to grab a hold
The waves made sight of her hard
When she began to go under
I dove into the water for her rescue
Struggling to save her when I could barley save myself
Their was no chance
She was gone
My boat was gone
All that was left was me and a raft
Washed ashore on a lone island
My former life was gone
In misery from my inability and lack of strength to save my true love
I lived like a cast away for 25 years
To afraid of the ocean to free my self
The time has come to free my soul
As a 45 year old man
I now have decided
To conquer my fear
I take my raft and set sail on the mighty ocean blue

Summer Memory

At the west tip of the mitten
Family gathers
BBQ is in the air, Karaoke
Raffles, auctions, horse shoe tournaments
Everyone’s having a blast,
As the day passes there is no time for a break from fun
With the damp cold grass below our feet and
The star covered moonlit sky above
Pesty mosquitoes are everywhere
With the kids in bed and adults drinking around a fire
We have all the freedom we could possibly want
Its are time now
Restless and full of energy
And a cold drink in the hand
The night is long

Tension

Tension

Sitting at my kitchen table in the chair with a broken leg,
My ice cream hits the spot,
The pitter patter of foot steps comes from behind
Before I know it the broken leg is kicked out my arms swipe the bowl of ice cream of the table,
On my back and glass everywhere,
Mark laughs,
Anger rushes through me; I grab a piece of glass and chuck it
Yelling in pain with glass in his shoulder
I realize what I did and quickly apologize
